Product
What is MarginPatrol?
MarginPatrol is a profit monitoring and alert system for Shopify stores. It helps merchants see operating profit after key variable costs and alerts them when orders, products, discounts, shipping, refunds or ads start eating margin.
Is MarginPatrol an analytics dashboard?
Not primarily. MarginPatrol is designed as a daily profit patrol: it shows profit, leaks, reasons, accuracy and what to check first.
What question does MarginPatrol answer?
Is my store making or losing money today?
Profit Calculation
How does MarginPatrol calculate profit?
MarginPatrol calculates operating profit for daily monitoring: net revenue minus COGS, shipping costs, payment fees, refunds, discounts and ad spend.
Is this accounting profit?
No. MarginPatrol calculates operating profit for daily monitoring. It is not accounting, tax, audit or financial advice software.
Why might MarginPatrol profit differ from Shopify reports?
Shopify reports often focus on sales, payouts or order data. MarginPatrol combines product costs, shipping costs, payment fees, refunds, discounts and ad spend for a different operating-profit purpose.
Do I need to enter costs for every product?
No. MarginPatrol helps you start with products that generated the most revenue. Adding costs for top products can improve profit accuracy quickly.
Accuracy
What is Profit readiness?
Profit readiness is a quality score showing how complete and reliable the data behind your profit number is.
What do Confirmed, Estimated and Preliminary mean?
Confirmed means enough data is available. Estimated means part of the calculation uses rules or assumptions. Preliminary means the data may still update.
What does Excluded mean?
Excluded means a component is intentionally not included in the calculation, such as taxes in the base v1 operating profit formula.
Alerts and Ads
What alerts does MarginPatrol send?
MarginPatrol can alert for unprofitable orders, low-margin products, ad spend pressure, shipping losses, refund spikes, missing COGS and cases where revenue is up but profit is down.
Will MarginPatrol spam me?
MarginPatrol groups related issues and prioritizes alerts by financial impact. The goal is fewer, more useful alerts.
Does MarginPatrol automatically fix issues?
No. MarginPatrol shows what to review first. It does not automatically change prices, discounts, shipping rules or ad budgets in v1.
Does MarginPatrol attribute ad spend to every order?
Order-level ad attribution is not enabled by default in v1. Campaign and channel-level profit should be treated as Estimated.
Mobile, Billing and Privacy
Is the mobile app required?
The Shopify app is used for setup. The mobile app is recommended for daily profit control, alerts and summaries.
Are amounts shown on the lock screen?
By default, MarginPatrol uses private push mode and hides sensitive amounts on lock screen notifications and widgets.
How does billing work?
Billing for the Shopify app is managed through Shopify billing. Plan details and trial information are shown during setup and on the Billing screen.
Does MarginPatrol need customer personal data?
By default, MarginPatrol is designed not to need customer names, emails, phone numbers or exact addresses to calculate store profit.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Data deletion is handled through MarginPatrol's data deletion process and Shopify privacy requirements where applicable.
